Education and Vocational Training in Therapeutic Programmes

e-mail address: euprog@kethea.gr

Education plays a key role in the services offered by the KETHEA therapeutic programmes. Education meets a broad range of needs from combating illiteracy and other basic educational gaps to preparing individuals for entry into higher education; it includes participation in art groups as well as giving individuals the possibility to take part in certified vocational training programmes in specific professional fields.

Specialised Social and Vocational Integration Centres
These centres have their headquarters in Thessaloniki and Athens, and branches in Larissa and Heraklion in Crete. They offer pre-vocational programmes, vocational training and related services to members and graduates of therapeutic programmes.

Creativity groups
These groups aim at broadening general knowledge and personal interests. They offer a range of activities such as sports, arts and music.

Production Units - Workshops
These include the KETHEA SCHEMA & CHROMA Printing Unit, a carpenter’s workshop and a ceramic workshop, as well as a farm in Sindos in the Thessaloniki area and biological olive farm in Crete. These units provide apprenticeship, that is vocational training under real workplace conditions within a supportive framework. Working contracts run for a period of five months and during this period trainees are paid and insured.

Transitional schools
These schools operate in Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa and Heraklion in Crete and are addressed to therapeutic programme members who have interrupted their school studies or who have finished school and have a leaving certificate and want to prepare for university entrance exams. According to Greek legislation, pupils attending these transitional schools may register in state schools and take part in all school examinations right up to the leaving certificate. All the subjects included in the school curriculum are taught and all the teaching staff are experienced teachers who have undergone special KETHEA training with addicted individuals and individuals on the path to recovery.
